The Boat and Stars
This Boat and Stars download captures one of the most iconic and atmospheric scenes in the entire Scottish Highlands. The famous Corpach shipwreck sits on the pebbly shore of Loch Linnhe under a dramatic night sky, stars breaking through the clouds above, while the snow capped bulk of Ben Nevis and the glittering lights of Fort William are reflected in the perfectly still water behind it.
I took this photograph on a clear winter’s night, standing on the shore at Corpach in near freezing temperatures. Getting this shot right takes patience — you need the loch to be completely calm, the sky to be partially clear for the stars, and the timing to be perfect so the town lights create that warm reflection across the water. Everything came together that night. The old wreck has sat on this shore for decades and has become one of the most recognisable landmarks in the Fort William area — but seen under a star filled sky it takes on a whole new dimension.
Scotland is beautiful
This Boat and Stars download is a bold, dramatic statement piece for any wall. The combination of the rugged wreck, the starlit sky, the snow capped mountain and the warm town lights creates a scene of extraordinary atmosphere and depth. It works beautifully as a large format print and is one of the most popular images from the Scottish Highlands with visitors and locals alike.
