Commando Memorial, Spean Bridge
This Commando Memorial digital download captures the iconic bronze statue near Spean Bridge, silhouetted against a golden autumn sunset. Fresh poppy wreaths lie at its base, laid in the days after Remembrance weekend, with the snow-capped hills of Lochaber stretching out behind.
I photographed this scene in the days following Remembrance weekend, as an autumn sunset spread across the Highlands. The light was soft and golden, catching the statue and the hills beyond it. Seeing the wreaths still resting at the base of the memorial against that sky felt like a quiet, fitting tribute. It’s a place that carries real weight, especially at that time of year.
