Cottage in the Glen
This Cottage in the Glen download captures one of the most atmospheric and haunting scenes in the Scottish Highlands.
A solitary abandoned white cottage sits alone on the snow covered floor of Glencoe, the vast bulk of Buachaille Etive Beag rising dramatically behind it under a brooding winter sky.
I photographed this on a heavy winter’s day when a fresh snowfall had blanketed the entire glen. The cottage has stood in this spot for generations. Its walls weathered and worn, its windows dark, surrounded by nothing but snow covered moorland and mountains in every direction. There is something deeply moving about this scene.
The contrast between the fragile human structure and the immense, indifferent landscape around it speaks to centuries of Highland life — of people who lived and worked in some of the harshest conditions in Britain.
The dark grasses pushing through the snow in the foreground add a raw, elemental texture that draws the eye straight to the cottage.
Beautiful Scotland
This Cottage in the Glen download has a powerful, cinematic quality that commands attention on any wall.
The cool blues, crisp whites and dark textures create a moody, atmospheric image that works beautifully as a large format print. It is a deeply evocative choice for anyone with Scottish heritage or a love of wild, remote Highland landscapes.
