Fairy Pools on Skye
This Fairy Pools Skye download captures one of Scotland’s most magical locations. Crystal clear water cascades over ancient black basalt rock. It flows into a perfectly still pool below. The mighty Black Cuillin mountains rise behind, shrouded in dramatic mist and cloud.
I photographed this on a moody, overcast day. Low cloud was rolling across the Cuillins and the air was completely still. The Fairy Pools are one of Skye’s most visited locations. Getting a clean, uncluttered shot takes patience and perfect timing. I used a long exposure to capture the silky movement of the water. The misty mountains add mystery and depth. On a day like this, with cloud swirling around the Cuillins, it is easy to understand the magic of this place.
This Fairy Pools Skye download has an ethereal, dreamlike quality. The cool grey tones of mist and rock work beautifully with the silky white water. Vivid greens on the hillside add life and colour to the scene. It looks stunning as a large format print. It is one of the most recognisable locations in Scottish photography.
