Glencoe Rocks
This Glencoe Rocks download captures the dramatic heart of Glencoe on a bright summer’s day — an ancient glacier worn boulder in the foreground leads the eye up through the lush green valley floor toward the towering peaks above, under a spectacular blue sky filled with rolling clouds.
I took this photograph on one of those rare perfect summer days in Glencoe when the light was sharp and clear and the valley was at its most vivid and alive. The boulder in the foreground has sat in this spot since the last ice age — deposited by the glacier that carved this valley thousands of years ago. Using it as a foreground anchor gives the image a sense of depth and scale that draws you right into the scene. The stream of scree running down the face of the mountain in the background traces the line of an ancient rockfall, telling the geological story of this extraordinary landscape.
This Glencoe Rocks download showcases Glencoe at its most vibrant and welcoming — a world away from the brooding winter images the valley is often known for. The vivid greens, rich blues and warm summer light create an uplifting, energetic image that works beautifully in any interior. It is a perfect choice for anyone who has walked the valley floor and felt the immense scale of Glencoe up close.
