Rainbow over the Old Man
This Rainbow Old Man Storr download captures one of the most magical and fleeting moments I have ever witnessed in the Scottish Highlands. A vivid rainbow arcs over the ancient rock pinnacles of the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye, while the vivid green hillsides sweep dramatically down to the Sound of Raasay far below.
I climbed to this viewpoint on a wild summer’s day when the weather was changing rapidly — showers and sunshine alternating every few minutes. The Old Man of Storr is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Scotland and I have photographed it many times. But this was something different. As I reached the viewing point the clouds parted, a shower swept in from the west and a rainbow appeared directly over the pinnacles. It lasted less than three minutes. I managed to capture it perfectly before the clouds closed in again. Moments like this cannot be planned — only witnessed if you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.
This Rainbow Old Man Storr download is one of the most joyful and uplifting images in my entire collection. The combination of the dramatic rock formations, the vivid rainbow, the lush green hillsides and the sweeping coastal view creates a scene of extraordinary beauty and energy. It looks stunning as a large format print and is a particularly popular choice as a gift for anyone who loves Scotland or has visited the Isle of Skye.
