This Standing Stones of Stenness
digital download brings one of Orkney’s most atmospheric ancient sites into your home. Three towering Neolithic stones rise from the grass beside the Loch of Stenness, set beneath a vast, brooding summer sky.
I photographed this scene on a late summer afternoon on Orkney. The clouds had been building for hours, and just as the light began to fade they broke into something truly dramatic. Standing beside these 5,000-year-old stones with the loch stretching out behind them felt like stepping back in time. Few places in Scotland carry that same quiet, ancient weight.
